Family caregiving and advocacy: "Imagining Robert," a memoir

—by Paul Kubek

I read a memoir by Jay Neugeboren about his experiences as a family caregiver of his brother, who has schizophrenia. The book is titled "Imagining Robert: My Brother, Madness, and Survival." The story explores Robert's struggles in New York's public mental health system, as well as Jay's advocacy on behalf of his brother. The narrative also explores feelings of compassion, guilt, anger, resentment, pride, joy, and enduring connectedness between brothers. ... It's a moving story, and I'm wondering if anyone else has read it and what you think.
