Myers presents training series for motivational interviewing in southwest Ohio

Moraine, OH—Join Consultant and Trainer Deborah Myers, MEd, PCC-S, of our Center at her Motivational Interviewing (MI) training events near Dayton, Ohio, in September and October 2012. Register online today. Participants engage in skill-building exercises to learn MI's client-centered approaches for responding to desire for change among individuals with mental illness and/or substance use disorders in a number of service settings (e.g., IDDT, ACT, other best practices). $60 each event. CEUs are available. Myers is a member of the international Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT).

MI is an evidence-based treatment that is one of the best available to address ambivalence to change. MI is a conversational approach designed to help people discover their own interest in considering and making a positive change in their lives. It helps them express in their own words their desire for change (i.e., "change-talk") about a number of personal issues: diet; exercise; managing symptoms of mental illness and physical illness; reducing and eliminating the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.

MI is a core component of several SAMHSA-recognized evidence-based practices and other emerging and best practices, such as the following:

  • Assertive Community Treatment (ACT)
  • Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment (IDDT)
  • Supported Employment/ Individual Placement and Support (SE/IPS)
  • Tobacco: Recovery Across the Continuum (TRAC)
  • Benefits Planning (BP)
  • Illness Management and Recovery (IMR)
  • Wellness Management and Recovery (WMR)
  • Integrated Primary & Behavioral Healthcare (IPBH)
