SKILL BUILDING

Training Series for Housing Staff Focuses on Employment, Creating a Culture of Work

—by Paul M. Kubek
Increase housing stability and employment among people with mental illness, substance use disorders, and co-occurring disorders. Our Center is presenting a series of important one-day training events in six different cities in Ohio for staff and supervisors of housing services, including the following:
  • PSH/Permanent Supportive & Independent Housing
  • Transitional Housing
  • Residential
  • Adult Care Facilities
  • Emergency Shelters
  • YMCA & YWCA Housing
  • Community CPST
  • Recovery Houses

Other providers of mental-health and addiction treatment are welcomed to attend. These events are made possible with support from the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS) as part of its statewide initiative to promote housing stability among residents.

WHY CREATE A CULTURE OF WORK?

Employment promotes recovery by providing people with extra income and a valued social role. People who work tend to achieve independent housing and a higher quality of life. Here's a sample of what you'll learn in this training:

  • Identify components of employment services and best practices that will help foster a culture of work across an array of housing settings
  • Identify and describe organizational facilitators and barriers to a culture of work
  • Develop a work plan to develop and/or enhance a culture of work in your organization
