We are hosting a series of training events for housing-services staff and supervisors who work with people with disabilities, especially severe mental illness and/or substance use disorders. The events introduce participants to Motivational Interviewing (MI), the evidence-based treatment, and Benefits Information and Education (SSI, SSDI, Medicaid, Medicare). The events are designed primarily for individuals who have not had exposure to or experience using MI or addressing topics related to benefits. We encourage the following to attend:

ABOUT THE PRESENTERSDeborah Myers, MEd, PCC-S, is a consultant and trainer at the Center for Evidence-Based Practices at Case Western Reserve University, and a member of the international Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT). Prior to joining the Center, Myers worked as a program manager in community behavioral healthcare in northwest Ohio (get bio).
Jeremy S. Evenden, MSSA, LISW-S, is a consultant and trainer at the Center for Evidence-Based Practices at Case Western Reserve University and a member of the international Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT). Prior to joining the Center, Evenden worked in community mental health in northeast Ohio as a case manager, therapist, and clinical supervisor (get bio).
Steve Shober, BS, LSW, is a consultant and trainer at the Center for Evidence-Based Practices (CEBP) at Case Western Reserve University. Prior to joining the Center, Shober worked at Eastway Behavioral Healthcare in Dayton, Ohio, as a vocational rehabilitation specialist, job coach, and team leader (get bio). |
"Motivational Interviewing: Application for Housing Staff" is a training event that occurs in four different locations in Ohio from December 2012 to April 2013. It introduces participants to the philosophy and essential constructs of this evidence-based treatment. Learn MI's client-centered approaches for fostering change and responding to resistance to change among individuals with severe mental illness and/or substance use disorders.

"Benefits Information for Housing Staff" is an event that occurs in four different locations in Ohio from December 2012 to March 2013. It introduces participants to basic benefits-planning issues and a framework for discussing benefits issues with individuals with disabilities (including SMI) who are considering employment. Participants will learn about benefits such as SSI, SSDI, Medicaid, and Medicare.
