OVERVIEW

This is Day 2 of a regional training series on SE/IPS that will provide a comprehensive education for agency staff who are involved in SE/IPS service provision. The training consists of three content areas aimed at introducing participants to the process of identifying and providing essential supports for individuals who want to find and maintain employment:

  • Development of the Vocational Profile. This section will provide participants an opportunity to discuss potential methods for gathering information about the job seeker’s strengths, preferences, abilities, and needs. In addition, participants will be provided with an opportunity to discuss potential methods for gathering information about the job seeker's strengths, preferences, abilities and needs
  • Job Development. This section will provide participants with an overview of a job development process that focuses on individual preferences and strengths. Participants will be able to participate in activities aimed at focusing on individual abilities and honoring job seeker preferences during the job search.  
  • Follow-Along Supports. This section will provide participants with an overview of on and off site supports that can be provided to help support individuals once they find employment in the community. Methods of providing support while honoring the preferences of the employed individual will be emphasized.

Learning Objectives 

At the end of the program, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand how to utilize a comprehensive vocational profile as a process and document..
  2. Explain how to collect, update, and use information from the vocational profile to assist with career planning, job search, job development, and proactive follow along.
  3. Identify important components of conducting individualized job development according to SE/IPS model principles.
  4. Recognize important components and options for providing follow along as a way of supporting employed individuals.

This event is open to employment specialists in Ohio who are currently providing evidence-based Supported Employment/Individual Placement and Support (SE/IPS) services and to those whose organizations are in the process of becoming providers of SE/IPS or in the process of exploring how to become a provider.

Michael Rogers is a consultant and trainer at the Center for Evidence-Based Practices at Case Western Reserve University and its Ohio Supported Employment Coordinating Center of Excellence (Ohio SE CCOE) initiative. He provides technical assistance (consultation and training) to service organizations that are implementing Supported Employment/Individual Support Services (SE/IPS), the evidence-based practice for people diagnosed with severe mental illness, substance use disorders, and co-occurring disorders.

Nicole Clevenger, MSSA, is a consultant and trainer at the Center for Evidence-Based Practices at Case Western Reserve University and its Ohio Supported Employment Coordinating Center of Excellence (Ohio SE CCOE) initiative. In this role, she provides technical assistance to service organizations throughout Ohio that are implementing Supported Employment (SE), the evidence-based practice, which helps people with mental illness find a job of their choice in the community. Ms. Clevenger also promotes the Center's consultation and training for Benefits Advocacy & Planning among service organizations and consumer-operated services (COS) that are helping people make more informed decisions about their benefits situations and employment dreams.

Steve Shober, BS, LSW, is a consultant and trainer at the Center for Evidence-Based Practices (CEBP) at Case Western Reserve University and its Ohio Supported Employment Coordinating Center of Excellence (Ohio SE CCOE) initiative. He provides technical assistance (program consultation, clinical consultation, and training) to service systems and organizations that are implementing evidence-based practices, emerging best practices, and other strategies that improve quality of life and other outcomes for people diagnosed with severe mental illness and substance use disorders. The practices and strategies include the following: Supported Employment / Individual Support Services (SE / IPS), the evidence-based practice; and Benefits Planning.
