  Please Note:

Helping individuals consider, obtain, and maintain employment is an ongoing challenge for ACT teams.  The Trans-theoretical Model (Stages of Change) provides a framework for examining individuals' personal interest in pursuing employment and, as a result, provides helpful guidance for team members who are attempting to engage individuals in discussions about working.

This workshop will provide participants an overview of the stages of change from a vocational perspective.  Discussion will focus on identifying stage based strategies for assisting clients with employment with the recognition that it is common for clients to feel different ways about employment at different points in time.  There will be an emphasis on person-centered strategies to engage clients in conversations about their interest in beginning, returning to, or maintaining employment.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Identify criteria associated with each stage of change.
  • Identify person centered, stage consistent strategies for engaging individuals in conversations about work.

Examples of those who should attend include the following:

  • Program managers
  • Team leaders
  • Team members
  • Quality Improvement (QI) specialists
