Integrated Treatment Tool

2011

The Integrated Treatment Tool is one of the first planning and evaluation instruments in the United States that enables organizations to implement integrated primary and behavioral healthcare services systematically for people with severe mental illness. The Center for Evidence-Based Practices at Case Western Reserve University uses the tool to help organizations plan and evaluate the ongoing process of implementing integrated primary and behavioral healthcare. The tool consists of the following:

  • 13 organizational characteristics
  • 10 treatment characteristics
  • 7 care coordination/management components

Shawnee Mental Health Center in Portsmouth, Ohio teamed up with the Center for Evidence-Based Practices to develop this planning and evaluation instrument. Shawnee is using the Integrated Treatment Tool to develop and improve primary health facilities and services in its three-county service area. This initiative is funded by the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and its Primary and Behavioral Health Care Integration (PBHCI) Program.
