Action Magazine Highlights Work of Center for Evidence-Based Practices

Action Magazine  focuses on the work of faculty, staff, students, alumni, friends, and community partners of the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University. The Mandel School is consistently ranked among the top schools of social work in the United States. Our Center is a partnership between the Mandel School and Department of Psychiatry at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Action Magazine is published by the Office of Institutional Advancement.

Dr. Kola received the 2014 EBP Champion Award for her unwavering commitment to implementing evidence-based practices and improving access to quality care in local communities. For 45 years, Dr. Kola has acquired and administered more than $16 million in grants from federal, state, and county agencies and charitable foundations to educate and train countless numbers of social work students and licensed professionals about clinical innovations for mental health and addiction services.

Page 9 / Our Supported Employment Coordinating Center of Excellence initiative is featured in "Research News."

The Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS) is expanding its commitment to employment for people with severe mental illness and is turning to the Center for Evidence-Based Practices to help make this happen. OhioMHAS has received a five-year Transforming Lives through Supported Employment grant from SAMHSA as part of a national initiative to increase use of this evidence-based practice.

Page 4 Debra Hrouda, PhD ('14), MSSA ('94), is featured in the story "Doctoral Students Recognized with Multiple Awards."

Hrouda received the Arol Shack Dissertation Award, which is given to an outstanding social welfare doctoral student. Dr.Hrouda's dissertation was "Factors Associated with Readiness for Treatment in a Sample of Substance-Dependent, Trauma-Exposed Incarcerated Women."
