Supervising practice of motivational interviewing to be highlighted at ODADAS training event

Akron, Ohio—Clinical supervisors of behavioral healthcare services are encouraged to join Deborah Myers, MEd, PCC-S, consultant and trainer from the Ohio SAMI Coordinating Center of Excellence, on Thursday, May 19 at the "Ohio Workforce Development Academy," sponsored by the Ohio Department of Alcohol & Drug Addiction Services (ODADAS). The event takes place at the University of Akron. Myers will present a daylong workshop, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, titled "Clinical Supervision: Strategies to Supervise the Practice of Motivational Interviewing." The Ohio SAMI CCOE is an initiative of the Center for Evidence-Based Practices (CEBP) at Case Western Reserve University.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

The abstract for Myer's workshops includes the following:

Clinical supervisors who provide meaningful supervision of Motivational Interviewing (MI) skill-development to service-team members must be equipped with some essential tools, including the following: skill identification and competency evaluation; clinical feedback; coaching; and planning. This workshop is designed for clinical supervisors at organizations that provide services to people diagnosed with substance-use disorders or substance-use disorders with other co-occurring behavioral-health and primary-health disorders. Participants will explore resources for applicability in their supervision of MI competencies and engage in activities designed to develop their ability to supervise the practice of MI. Participants must have prior training or experience in MI.
